Our mission at Thrive Family Chiropractic is to educate and empower families and communities in the Greater Urbandale area to make informed decisions about their health & well-being without the use of drugs or surgery to help them thrive throughout life.
Dr. Shane grew up in Willey, Iowa, a small town outside of Carroll, graduating from Kuemper Catholic High School. Chiropractic wasn’t always the first option coming from a family of nurses and pharmacists where the traditional medical model was the norm. From a young age, he battled ear infections, asthma, allergies, and digestive issues, spending much of his childhood on medications. It wasn’t until sports injuries led him to a chiropractor that he discovered something life changing: regular adjustments didn’t just help with pain, they helped his whole body function better. His ear infections became less frequent, his asthma and allergies calmed, and he was less dependent on medications.
That experience opened his eyes to the body’s God given ability to heal, regulate, and adapt when interference is removed. Nothing added in, nothing taken away, simply honoring the design of being “fearfully and wonderfully made.” He fell in love with chiropractic as a proactive, preventative way to raise healthy kids into healthy adults, and his passion has only grown stronger since.
Dr. Shane earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Chemistry focus from the University of Northern Iowa before graduating with honors from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2017. At Palmer, he served as class president, was nominated for the Clinical Excellence Award, and worked as a radiology intern with some of the top chiropractic radiologists in the world. He was also a board member of the Activator Methods Club and heavily involved in technique, leadership, and business groups on campus. His preceptorship, the chiropractic equivalent of a residency, took place in one of the largest chiropractic clinics in the world, where he gained invaluable experience caring for over 1,200 patients per week and sharpening his skills in clinical decision making, family care management, and office systems.
Dr. Shane holds advanced certifications in Activator Methods (Advanced Proficiency), Webster Technique for pregnancy, Craniosacral Therapy (CST) with Lori Hendrickson, and additional certification in infant cranial work with Dr. Marty Rosen through Peak Potential Institute. He has also earned his Certificate of Proficiency in Pediatric & Family Chiropractic through the Pediatric Experience (PX) in partnership with Life University, an 80 hour postdoctoral program. In addition, he is trained in Torque Release Technique and proficient in Diversified, Gonstead, Thompson, and Logan Basic adjusting methods.
Â
In 2018, Dr. Shane and his wife Kristin founded Thrive Family Chiropractic with the mission of helping families, children, and individuals live fully, not only in moments of pain, but as a lifelong investment in health and wellness.”You never know how far reaching something you think, say, or do today will affect the lives of millions tomorrow”, Dr. Shane often reminds patients, quoting B.J. Palmer. “Our goal at Thrive is to help families keep the good good & sincerely THRIVE throughout life to experience true health & wellness, not just chase symptoms.” Outside the office, Dr. Shane is deeply involved in the Urbandale and greater Des Moines community. You’ll often see him at Chamber events, festivals, parades, fundraisers, and local pop ups supporting small businesses.Â
Â
At home, he and Kristin are raising three energetic kiddos, Paxton, Sawyer, and Collins, who keep them busy at soccer, wrestling, t ball, and swim. They live on a small acreage between Van Meter and Cumming, where Dr. Shane enjoys homesteading, gardening, tending to chickens and bees, lawn care, and playing competitive volleyball in leagues and tournaments across the Midwest. The Hoffmans are grateful to be part of the Des Moines Christian School family and are active members of Hope Lutheran Church in West Des Moines. For Dr. Shane, community and family are everything, and that same heartbeat is what drives Thrive Family Chiropractic: building healthier families, a stronger community, and a place where people of all ages can truly thrive.
Dr. Brad grew up in the small farm town of West Union, Iowa, where family, faith, and community values shaped who he is today.
Â
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Northern Iowa before graduating with honors from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2017. While at Palmer, he served as a radiology intern and vice president of the Activator Club, helping teach students how to apply gentle, specific instrument-based adjusting techniques.
Â
His journey into chiropractic is personal. At age 17, Dr. Brad was involved in a car accident that left him with excruciating neck pain and declining mental health. After months of traditional medical care with little relief, he turned to chiropractic and experienced life-changing results. That transformation led him to dedicate his career to helping others find hope and healing through nervous system–based care.
Â
Dr. Brad holds certifications in Webster Technique, Activator Methods, and Craniosacral Therapy (CST), along with extensive pediatric and family training through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and Pediatric Experience. He also practices Torque Release, Thompson, Logan Basic, and Diversified techniques, tailoring care for each individual, from newborns to expecting moms to grandparents. He is especially passionate about preventative care, rehabilitation after injuries, and helping families see chiropractic as a lifestyle, not just a crisis solution.
Â
At Thrive Family Chiropractic, Dr. Brad loves the supportive culture of his team and the opportunity to serve a wide variety of families in the Urbandale and Des Moines communities. “Every day I get to help people see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he says, “restoring hope that their bodies can heal and thrive naturally.”
Â
Outside the office, Dr. Brad lives in Johnston with his wife, Caitlin, and their two daughters, Olivia and Ella, along with their Australian Shepherd, Oakley. His family is active at Gloria Dei Church in Urbandale, and they love being outdoors, gardening, walking trails, visiting the zoo, and traveling together. A passionate Iowa Hawkeyes fan, Dr. Brad rarely misses a football, wrestling, or basketball game.
Dr. Trystin grew up in Grinnell, Iowa, where her love for health and movement began early. She attended Grand View University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology while competing as a collegiate track athlete. She then continued her education at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, graduating in February 2025 as valedictorian. She was honored with the Academic Excellence Award and was also a finalist for the Clinical Excellence Award.
Â
During her preceptorship in Ankeny, Iowa, Dr. Trystin gained hands-on experience caring for families and athletes, deepening her passion for nervous-system-focused, whole-body wellness care. She is certified in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and is trained in Diversified and Activator Methods adjusting techniques.
Â
Although her introduction to chiropractic began with sports performance, Dr. Trystin soon realized that chiropractic care was transforming much more than her physical health. It improved her mental clarity, lowered anxiety, and strengthened her resilience to stress. Today, she combines that firsthand understanding with her clinical expertise to help patients experience the same. “Your body knows how to heal,” she says, “but stress often gets in the way. My goal is to help the nervous system communicate clearly so your body can function the way it was designed to.”
Â
Dr. Trystin loves working with prenatal and postpartum moms, infants, children, and athletes. Her care philosophy centers on helping patients regulate their nervous systems, handle daily stressors more effectively, and reach their full potential. She loves that Thrive Family Chiropractic provides a supportive environment where she can practice with a true nervous-system-based approach, grow as a doctor, and be part of a team and community that values holistic family wellness.
Â
Outside the office, Dr. Trystin lives in Ankeny with her boyfriend Jorden and their two dachshunds, Ace and Graham. She enjoys playing pickleball, reading, traveling, and exploring new places with her dogs. She is a proud Iowa State fan and cheers passionately for the Philadelphia Eagles. Spicy food is her favorite, and she never turns down an opportunity to try something bold and new.
